‘_delicada cruesa_’ (‘_delicate rawness_’) is a multidisciplinary project that brings together the result of the process of documenting a body that is becoming ill.

The body is that of the artist herself, who, from the start of the lockdown for COVID-19 in early 2020, felt straightaway that something was happening and began to document her everyday life.

‘_delicada cruesa_’ includes portraits and images of her surroundings in black and white, in dialogue with the poems and the fanzines, the creation of which allowed her to navigate this experience. Through this project, Irene Pérez gives testimony of the emocional, social and political repercussions of a journey marked by medical tests and devastating pain flares. In this way she documents the visible effects of an apparently invisible disease.

In the ALBUM festival the artist will present for the first time the multidisciplinary result of this documentation. The exhibition can be seen in the Librería Cinta from 4 November to 4 December.

Irene Pérez (Terrassa, 1975) is a visual artist, mother and activist for various causes with a feminist outlook.

A graduate in Fine Arts from University of Illinois, Chicago, through her works she has explored ideas related to indentity, gender, language, education and disease, starting from her personal experience and in a multidisciplinary manner, with the aim of converting them into the vehicle for generating thought.

Among other projects, in 2019 in the Tigomigo gallery she presented the project Llavors per a la resistència (Semillas para la resistemcia, Seeds for resistance), in which she took as her starting point the conversations that she had with her daughter, particularly those related to gender discrimination, ecology and politics.

This premise, along with the practice of conscious, non-adultcentric, feminist upbringing, allowed the artist to continue working with the idea of her former project, Nuevo Universo: explorando nuevas posibilidades, presented in 2016 in the Textile Museum and Documentation Centre in Terrassa, which took as a reference point free education as a motor of change.

Irene Pérez. Àlbum, festival d'imatge i fotografia contemporània.

More recently, in 2021 she presented once again in the Textile Museum in Terrassa the project Calibracions: en la cruïlla entre text/tèxtil, so i imatges en temps de pandémia (Calibraciones: en el cruce entre texto/textil, sonido y imágenes en tiempos de pandemia, Calibracions: at the crossroads between text/textile, sound and images in times of pandemic), am exploration of the experience of lockdown during the COVID19 pandemic and its after-effects combining textile work, photography, drawing, writing and sound pieces.
