DÍPTICOS
Dípticos (Diptychs) presents the portrait of a person who stares at the visitor of an exhibition. The portrait narrates a part of his sentimental, affective or sexual life that he considers relevant.
This second image (the first is the portrait) is never my idea, but is a proposal of the portrait. I do not suggest anything, nor do I intervene in the composition of the scene or in the poses of the portrayed.
Among all the photographs of the session will be the one who chooses the image that best suits his idea and that I will place next to his portrait.
This series began in 2000 and closed in 2009 when I had already made more than seventy diptychs.
Díptics is present in several collections, including the collection Rafael Tous, Macba, Musac, Community of Madrid or the Redón Collection, among others.
Exposure with explicit sexual content.
Santos Montes
Santos Montes was born in Santander in 1949 and has lived and worked in Barcelona since 1993. His work is divided into several series:
Next to the image of the portrait there is another one of his sentimental or sexual life. In total there are seventy-two diptychs that are a small representation of the sexual and sentimental life of the late 90s and the first decade of the 21st century.
ALCORISA: An extensive work on the life of this town of Teruel. They are portrayed by their inhabitants and there are many images of their customs and their festivals.
BUSCANDO EL NORTE: It consists of several small photographic series, videos and recordings in Super 8. There are several thousand images taken over fourteen years in a strip of less than two kilometers off the coast of Lugo Province.
MATA-HARI: Six images attempt to reflect the last moments of this famous dancer’s life. Original vintage photos are mixed with others made by Santos Montes. In addition, there are two books made with the tests that were required to obtain the final result.
In the background there are the multiple doubts that arise when analyzing a historical fact and the possible injustice of the tragic end of Mata-Hari. Photographs and books should always be displayed together.
His works are part of the collections Macba (Barcelona), Musac (Leon), Fundació Pilar i Joan Miró (Palma), Rafael Tous Collection, Juan Redón Collection, Antonio Barnola Collection, Artium (Seville), Vila-Casas Foundation, Museum of Teruel, University Museum of Alicante, Ongarri (Elgoibar), Caixa Cantabria, Autonomous Community of Madrid, Marugame Museum (Japan) and Tagomago Collection.
