Sala Muncunill – Art Terrassa presents…
RECUPERATS
The exhibition “Reccuperats” (Recovery) revolves around the concept of the found object, work in progress, collectivism and accumulation. What began as the simple act of collecting a letter of erotic poker from the ground, became a practice that would define a new artistic methodology for the artist, extending over forty years to the present day.
This exhibition reveals for the first time the result of this extensive work, highlighting:
- Two games of full cards, one of poker and the other of the Catalan fight, made up of all the cards found over the years, vertically prepared to show both faces.
- An ironic accumulation of all the banknotes found, stored in a hut.
- A game of chess, incomplete to date, which is also part of this collection.
The exhibition is completed with the work Davant de casa, una jeep negra (In front of the house, a black jeep), which includes 400 photographs taken between 2015 and 2019, documenting a casual and daily event: the prolonged parking of the vehicle of a neighbor in front of the residence of the artist.
Through these pieces, the artist not only invites us to reflect on the value of the found object and accumulation, but also on the nature of chance and everyday life in contemporary artistic creation.
Manel Sellarés
Manel Sellarés studied at the School of Applied Arts in Terrassa through the Llotja and completed his training in the workshop of a local painter.
During his youth, he participated in painting competitions, collective exhibitions and also some individual exhibition. After a parenthesis, he began a new stage in visual poetry and the poetics of the object, a new fundamental horizon in the expansion of the limits of realization of the artistic work. From this stage comes his interest in procedural works, with languages such as photography and video that it continues to this day.
